Let's Twist to the 60's with Batiks!

Look who we have for our sponsor of this hop!
Can you believe,  these gorgeous  batiks, from Island Batik.
I am in awe.  Three of you will be enjoying these fabrics shortly after this fun hop.
Groovy!!!

Here it is!  I wanted to share the Love.  I  am from that era, but definitely was not a hippie or flower child. The pictures from the previous post show that I was more  "straight laced" .
I loved the Beatles, watched the Smothers Brothers, and Laugh In and the Ed Sullivan Show.
Once I moved from my folks home, I did wear mini skirts and dyed my hair blond.

My quilt represents the Love and Peace.  The smiley face is still around. The white dove  and the peace sign, have had variations, but still represent peace.  I had some fabric that had the "Bug" on it and made my field of flowers. The border is made of  old style batik.  Remember when there was the madras plaid and they over dyed it to make it into a batik.

I had to wear my shades when I worked on this quilt.  These brights were were outta sight!

Here are closeups  of my blocks. There is paper-piecing, and applique, and a free form arrangement.

The heart block has "Love" written in the batik fabric.

Love the "bug"  and smiley face fabric. Had to make a little yellow submarine.

And of course there are flowers.

Thank you Madame Samm for letting me be the cheerleader for this cool hop. This chick had a blast creating the groovy quilt.

I hope everyone has a far out time hopping.  Here is our list of participants.  Please stop by and cheer them on.

Thank you for cheerleading us down the 60's memory road. I can remember my oldest sister & friend won tickets to the Ed Sullivan show to see Elvis - they ended up getting stranded at a hospital as her friend passed out dead away at Elvis' Pelvis moves and they got taken from the studio - we had to travel umpteen miles to go pick them up and get them home. So much for seeing Elvis.

Mary-Your quilt is groovy! I too, was a "child of the 60's". I grew up in SF, but not a radical. In fact, I chose to go to college someplace else because of all the turmoil at SFSU. I met my husband but he enlisted and got away from all the protests too. We didn't get married until he was discharged after spending a tour in Germany then Vietnam. Now as we look back, we try to remember the good things. Thanks for sharing and bringing back all the good things from that time.

Cool. I love the bright colours which only batiks can really pull off. Ed Sullivan----having a nap Sunday afternoon so as to be allowed to stay up for his show. The characters and performers I would have missed if not for taking that nap! Great was the day when Mum determined I was old enough to forego the nap.

Mary, I like you, am a child of that era and was/am more straight-laced. I had to take a "good" pair of jeans and put iron on patches to make words on them for a party back in the 60's. I don't think I ever wore those jeans again. I love your quilt. I love the mention of madras. Oh, how that fabric bled. Your quilt captures the essence of that time period and the batiks you chose are beautiful. Thanks for participating and being the head cheerleader.

What a total groovin' quilt. Everyone comes up with such wonderful memories of the time. I, too, wasn't a flower child though I liked the 'burn your bra' part of the movement! And mini skirts, they were fun, too!
