Let's twist to the 60's with Batiks, final day

October 4

This is it, the final day of this groovy hop.
Our quilters have been "right on."
It is the "pitts" that it has to end.
We have had to wear our "shades" sometimes with the bright colors.
It has been so "cool" to see all the creativity that exists.
What a "gas" we have had.
But it is time to "beat feet" and catch some "ZZZZ's"

Don't forget to cheer our last group of "chic's".
This have been such a "groovy" hop.

Thank you to all have have participated. You have made my day!  Thank you to Madame Samm for helping to cheer us on. Hop on over to see what she has planned for today.

Let's twist to the 60's with Batiks, Thursday

Here is the batik quilt I made after my trip to Bermuda.  I was given the charm squares the evening I visited with the Bermuda Quilt Guild. I had taken blank muslin squares to have the ladies of the guild sign. It is such a great memory quilt.

Let's Twist to the 60's with Batiks, Day 5, Tuesday

I made this quilt several years ago. I saw a quilt similar to this one and thought what a great way to showcase batiks.
This quilt was gifted.  My friend loves all the bright colors.

Let's Twist to the Sixties with Batiks, Day 4

How about these pillowcases!!
When I was gathering thoughts and fabrics for my 60's quilt, I came across some 60's related fabric.
The pink pillowcase has peace signs all over it and is a current fabric I found in a quilt show.
Hobby Lobby has the rainbow colored peace signs.
The "bug" fabric I had for a while.
Today we only have 4 stops on our hop.  I am sure they will be able to WOW us.

How about a padiddle?
Peddle Pushers
You owe me a coke, when two people said the same thing at the same time!

Those were the days!

Let's twist to the 60's with Batiks

This is it, no more pictures of me.  Please note that I am wearing a mini skirt, and big blouse, and blond hair.  That was my statement for the 60's!!

We sure had a great start yesterday.  Love all the brightness of the batiks.

Here is our lineup for today.  Please give them all a groovy cheer!

Let's Twist to the 60's with Batiks!

Look who we have for our sponsor of this hop!
Can you believe,  these gorgeous  batiks, from Island Batik.
I am in awe.  Three of you will be enjoying these fabrics shortly after this fun hop.
Groovy!!!

Here it is!  I wanted to share the Love.  I  am from that era, but definitely was not a hippie or flower child. The pictures from the previous post show that I was more  "straight laced" .
I loved the Beatles, watched the Smothers Brothers, and Laugh In and the Ed Sullivan Show.
Once I moved from my folks home, I did wear mini skirts and dyed my hair blond.

My quilt represents the Love and Peace.  The smiley face is still around. The white dove  and the peace sign, have had variations, but still represent peace.  I had some fabric that had the "Bug" on it and made my field of flowers. The border is made of  old style batik.  Remember when there was the madras plaid and they over dyed it to make it into a batik.

I had to wear my shades when I worked on this quilt.  These brights were were outta sight!

Here are closeups  of my blocks. There is paper-piecing, and applique, and a free form arrangement.

The heart block has "Love" written in the batik fabric.

Love the "bug"  and smiley face fabric. Had to make a little yellow submarine.

And of course there are flowers.

Thank you Madame Samm for letting me be the cheerleader for this cool hop. This chick had a blast creating the groovy quilt.

I hope everyone has a far out time hopping.  Here is our list of participants.  Please stop by and cheer them on.

60's hop is almost here.

Like I said before, I was not a hippie in the 60's.  But I did have my little white gloves when I got dressed up.
I have been sewing a long, long time.  This is a dress I made in brown and white gingham with white rick rack on the bottom of the dress, sleeves and neckline.  Madame Samm should love that gingham, even though it is not red.
Remember the pattern carpets and how about those drapes??
The 60's was quite the time.   I have looked for the mini skirt, but so can't find those pictures. I was more of the "Jackie Kennedy" look.  I made a lot of my own dresses, and loved to wear hats and of course pearls.  (Still do, on the pearls.)

Carol over at Just Let Me Quilt was singing "our" songs all day.  Who did your swoon over?  My favorite was James Darren.  I remember sending for his autograph.  Back in those days you could write to different places and get signed autograph pictures.
He was just so cool.

Remember the Gidget movies?  How about all the Beach party movies.  American Bandstand, I wanted to dance just like all those kids. My girlfriends and I would practice in front of the television. Oh to be so cool!!

Join us on Wednesday to "Twist to the 60's with Batiks".
We are going to have a groovy good time!

Let's Twist to the 60's

Here is what a 1964 graduate looked like!  Yes, this is me.  I graduated in 1964 from Flushing High School, Flushing, Michigan.  I definitely was not the hippie type.  Now that I look at the list that Madame Samm led us to, I do remember some of these things. American Bandstand, white gloves, I did have a pair of clunky dress shoes, and at least one mini skirt.  I don't know if I can find any pictures of that! Do remember the Beatles and the twist and who doesn't remember the Mickey Mouse Club, can still sing the song!
Did you have troll or Barbie dolls?    Oh, what a time.

Here is our line up  of "groovy" "chicks" who are going to show us what we missed!

Here is our lineup for "Lets Twist to the 60's with Batiks"

Let's Twist to the 60's

There are a lot of things representative of the 60's!
It was a colorful era.and full of fads!
Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to create something representing the 60's using batiks or how about tie-dyed fabric.

Kennedy was running for president
We wore flowers in our hair
Hippies
The volkswagen
Folk music
Petula Clark
Peace signs
The Monkey's
Rocky and Bullwinkle
The Beatles
The Bee Gees
Hair

We still have some spots, so "Let's Twist to the 60's.
