Happy Birthday to Me

These are the lovely roses my sweet husband had delivered for my birthday last week. I have never had so many roses at one time. They are so gorgeous.  Our son Andy and his girlfriend Alicia met us at a restaurant last evening to celebrate. We had so much fun, and it was so good to see them.

This is a gorgeous orchid I got to bloom!!  I am not usually very good at this. Last year I had purchased this one while it was blooming. That I could handle, but to get it to bloom, now that was the challenge.  There is a spot in our family room that is in a corner with windows on the two sides.  I have left it along, water when I think about it.  Much to my surprise a stalk started to get buds on it.  I really did not have much hope.  I still have one orchid that there is not way life can be breathed into.  I bought a couple of starts last February at Hausermann's, in Villa Park, IL.  It looks like a couple of them are going stalks for flowers.  Keep your fingers crossed.

No sewing this week, life happened.  We were out of town for several days and not in the mood to even do hand sewing. Now to get back on track.

Have a great week, happy sewing and quilting.

Quilt Bee Weekend

This past weekend the quilt bee I belong to, "Prairie Friends" had a sewing weekend.  We reserve a room at a local hotel to sew in from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.  Several of my friends stay at the hotel, and the rest  of us commute.  We bring snacks, Chocolate, and a little wine to round out the sewing!!  Saturday, we always go to some place wonderful for a late lunch, early dinner and of course the local quilt shop.

Marcia (up above) stayed Friday and until Saturday afternoon.   This is one of the things she was working on.

Here are two of the quilts being worked on.  Marita is working on the green one the left, and Marge is working on the black, white and turquoise.

Above is Marita.  She is the one that arranges for this wonderful weekend.

Here are Marge and Kristie. They were checking out Marges' pattern, the black and white one.

Linda was working on a reproduction basket quilt.

Judy was working on a quilt with half square triangles.

Lyn was trying to get a wedding quilt ready to take to the longarmer for quilting.

Here is my Dresden plate quilt.  I got the centers, and setting triangles done.

This is the wedding quilt Lyn is working on.  She got all but one row done.

Here is the quilt Linda is working on.  She was piecing the first border for this beauty.

When Judy was done sewing, she decided to work on the embroidery for another quilt.

Progress on Marita's quilt.  She is fussy cutting each setting triangle of this quilt.

Here is just one block of the quilt that Kristie is working on.  It is going to be gorgeous.

Everyone had a great time.  We have been having this wonderful weekend for several years.  We all bring projects to work on.  We have so much fun.

Everyone have a great week. Thank you for stopping by.
Happy Quilting.

Sew Days

Last week I said I would be working on projects and would have a couple of "Sew Days".  Well, I made good use of that time. I finished sewing the Dresden rings on their background fabric (forgot to take picture). Now deciding on frames and setting fabrics for them.
I did get two backs for quilts made on Saturday.  Yea, 2 more will be done!!
Made these 3 snap bags on Saturday, too.  One is already on its way to a secret pal.
I love making the snap bags. Need to find more metal measuring tapes.

Made these two zipper bags.

Made two more bags using sewing themed fabric.

Then decided to play around making journal covers.  I did have fun adding some embellishments. It made me want to make more.

Today I finished these 3.  I was in the mode of, if 1 is good 6 is better! I have my finishes for this month done early.

Loving the fun of using the embellishments I  have been collecting. I have used up a bunch  of quilt bat scraps, 2  1/2 inch strips cut into squares,  various fat quarters, and some yardage for the backs. Does this mean I can replace with new fabric??
Another sewing day tomorrow, back to working on the Dresden plate quilt.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a great rest of the week.

Oregon or Bust

My friend, Isabelle, in France and I are making a quilt together. The pattern is from Bonnie Hunters book, Scraps & Shirttails II.  The block is called Oregon or Bust.
We decided at the first of the year we would make 2 different blocks for each of us, each month.  That means we have 4 blocks each to make, each month.  The two blocks above are the two I received from Isabelle for January.  They are so very nice.

These six blocks are what I am sending Isabelle, for January, February, and March.  Once I got started, I could not stop. I hope she is going to like these.
The quilt is to measure 85 x 100 and has 50 blocks.  It is going to be fun to see how all our blocks are going to play together.

My head cold is finally over and now  my husband has a sinus infection.  Our weather has been very different this winter and I think it has aided in our health issues. It got up to 42 today.  There is only a small pile of snow in our front yard.  Tonight it is raining.  There is a possibility of some snow on Sunday.Who knew!!  I have heard that crocus and daffodil bulbs are breaking through the ground.

Saturday looks to be a sewing day.  Pride of the Prairie Quilt Guild is having a sewing day from 9:00  am to 9:00  pm.  I have two tote bags with things I would like to work on.  Backs need to be made for the two tops I finished in January.
At Thursday sew days I have been working on Edyta Sitar's Dresden Star. It is going to take a bit of time to finish that top.  Maybe it will be ready by the next sew day comes along.

Have a great weekend.  Hope whoever is your favorite will win the "Super Bowl".  It should be a good game to get some handwork done!
Happy Quilting
