Skydiving in Ottawa

Had you guessing for just a moment, didn't I.  No, it was not me going in an airplane to skydive!
In a small airport, just out side Ottawa, there is a national skydiving competition being held.
We decided to take a drive and watch the action for a while. It was actually a perfect day to.  There were overcast skies.  You could see the planes as they were dropping the divers, could see that they were doing their formations, then when they broke away and free fall until their chutes open.
It was great. We stayed for several hours watching. They were on the 82 load when we finally left about 5:15.

This is part of the Golden Knights group.  Yep, the same ones you see at air shows. They had just landed as we arrived.

They practice in a plane door opening, how they will fall out of the plane for the beginning of the formation.  They are practicing all the time.

They have these trolly's they roll around on working on the formation that they will be doing when they are in the sky.

There are all types of people skydiving.  Check out the hair on the guy on the left!
It is one way to watch when he went up and then when he lands!

The formations are video taped and then scored.  The teams can view them on these monitors and see how they did.

Found this on a bulletin board.  I have wondered how those planes flew.

Also on the bulletin board.

My husband said he has seen this one.

A perfect landing!

Practice, practice.  This is the Air Force team.
It was interesting to watch how they pack the parachutes.  These are the chutes of the Golden Knights. They are relying on these chute packers for a safe landing.

I have to admit, there was a little part of me that was thinking that maybe I might like to try it.  Okay, only a teeny, tiny part of me. We had a great day.

Hope you have had a sewing day.

That would be really fun to watch! I think it would be neat to fall through the sky.... BUT... someone would have to PUSH me out of the plane! That's the part that gives me the shivers. Once I was out of the plane, I really do think that it would be amazing to look over the land from so high and drift to the ground. Ahhhhh....
