Umbrella and dolls, and don't forget about Rush Hour

Madame Samm has been talking about recycling an umbrella.  I can't wait until her pattern comes out so I can give it a try.  This whole umbrella thing got me to thinking about them.  How many do you own that work or not? I think we are up to seven.  Not a great number, and never available when you need them!
When my husband was courting me, many years ago, he was doing it at long distance.  One of the early flights to visit, as he was going through the airport, he saw a stand set up with these umbrellas.  On a whim he purchased this one and had my name put on it.  It is not really for the rain, but to protect me from the sun.

Have you seen those neat dolls that Madame Samm has made?  They are wonderful.
At a guild workshop many, many years ago. Eleanor Peace Bailey came to do a lecture and workshop.  This is my creation.
"When the Fat Lady Sings".  I did make her, but Eleanor did her face for me.

Check out the butterfly on her breast.  Yes those are silver gloves on her hands, and a feather in her hair.

At another workshop, only I don't know who with, I made this other doll.
Her body is her clothes with added accessories.

She has a petticoat under her skirt, a diamond on her finger, and how about that updo.

It is always fun to take a class and try new things.  You never know when you may find a new creative side of yourself.  I think i still enjoy sewing small projects and quilts.  I do like my two dolls though.
Have a great rest of the week,
Don't forget "Rush Hour" is still in progress.  The latest hop that Madame Samm and Carol of Just Let Me Quilt are hosting. Let's see what else can be done with "Rush Hour" fabric or the black, white, red and gray combination.  There have been some wonderful ideas so far.
Here is the schedule for our up coming quilters.

will be interesting to see what you do with the umbrellas, I find they last 5 minutes with me then the wind destroys them. I do have a very old one inside a walking stick but it is perished keep it for sentimental reasons as it was Dad`s. Some lovely dolls you have made, I do have a book for making them but so far not done any

Great dolls, Mary! I have yet to give one a try. I, too, am awaiting that umbrella pattern.

I love your dolls, they are just precious. So much character. I made some porcelain dolls and cloth dolls back when my kids were younger and I had some spare time. Enjoyed it so much, and still have all my dolls displayed. Thanks for sharing!

You dolls are so sweet. I haven't jumped into doll making, but would like to make one. That umbrella is so unique and a great gift with your name.

It's been years since I made a doll, but yours are just so cute I may have to give it a try again. My umbrellas (I only have four) are waiting for a makeover. Should be fun!
