New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks, Conn.

We have done it again.  A spur of the moment trip to the New England Air Museum, in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.  Ron wanted to meet with  someone there that had a lot of knowledge of B-29's from World War II, and there just so happened to be a quilt show.  In touring the area we came upon a small group of mules.  Ron had never seen one that had the spots on it.  We were fascinated by it's appearance.

Fall is making an appearance. These asters are so pretty, Don't you just love the purple of fall.

There is a big complex.

Love, basket quilts.  This was so nice, because it has a large block, and then a block with 4 small basket patterns.

This was an amazing piece of work.

Here is the description.
This was a neat tribute quilt.
What a nice story.
Here is what is called nose art on the B-29.  Ron's father flew this type of plane during World War II.

When I took this picture, Ron was actually in the plane, sitting in the cockpit.

Here is Pat Sidley, with Ron.  His father-in-law, and Ron's Dad had the B-29 in common.  They spent the whole day together talking and comparing notes.  Ron has a new friend.

Leaves are changing color.  The couple of days we were there you could see the changes.

One of the things we did not know was this area is part of the Tobacco Valley.  The harvest is in, and the leaves are curing in these big barns.

Now have you ever seen twin pumpkins?  One stem, two pumpkins growing together.  If we could, I would have brought one home!  The lady told us, this happens every now and then.

I am going to do another post about the wonderful display of World War I quilt that were also on display.
Sue Reich has written a book about World War II quilts, that is wonderful.  She is in the process of having a new book being published about World War I.  I was able to hear a lecture she gave while at the museum.   I have a copy on order.  She has a lot of quilts in her collection.
Stay tuned.
