My first tomato of the season

I know this is sort of off the wall, but this is my first tomato off my plant this season.  Should have taken a picture of it on the plant. It is not too big.

Here is me biting into it.

Nothing like fresh vegetables right off the vine.  There is something about that taste that you just do not get from  vegetables from the store.  Many years ago I lived out in the country and had a huge garden. One of my neighbors and I would spend many days canning what we got from the garden.  I did make my own tomato sauce, and canned, whole tomatoes too.  I made apple sauce, and canned fresh peaches and pears.  I made pickles, usually 2 or 3 different kinds. Even made sauerkraut.  My Dad and I love that.  Nothing like polish sausage, potatoes and sauerkraut.  We froze corn, beans and peas.  So good. I miss the canned good, but not the work.  It was fun but a lot of work and took a lot of time. It all seemed to come at once.  Those were the days.

Have a good one.
Mary

It looks really good. Mine are tiny and green, we had a late start on gardening due to late cold weather. I hope I eventually get some red ones.

Oh Mary, then you have to tease us by eating your one and only tomato in front of us. ; ) Looks delicious. You're right ... nothing like fresh veggies right off the vine.

Ahhh...I can smell the freshness from here. Those hard square things they sell in grocery stores are NOT tomatoes!

Hi Mary! I'm reading your blog on my Blogger dashboard so I can leave a comment. On Bloglovin' I still cannot leave a comment. I've emailed Bloglovin' about this as this could be affecting lots of blogs. They replied once to say that you can't have your comments section 'hidden' but 'embedded' and 'pop up' are okay. I've got mine as 'full page' and I receive comments okay. I've sent another email to them asking for more clarification. It might mean that you actually have to 'claim' your blog. I'll get back to you. As there are lots of our followers using Bloglovin' to READ our posts, I want to sort this problem out. Like you, I was only ever reading on the Dashboard but as so many blogs were switching to bloglovin' as a reader, I just followed the gang!
I'm sewing today... it's wet and cold outside, perfect sewing day!

I canned 6 pints of bread and butter pickles today Mary. A friend told me she never did hers in a water bath canner - she just had hot jars and lids and hot brine and they sealed just fine. I did that today; I figure I can keep them in the refrigerator if I have to but I wanted to see if it actually works without the 10 minutes called for in the water bath canner. How did you make yours? blessings, marlene
