Good Morning Monday

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was gorgeous here in Oswego.  It was in the 80's and 90's, blue skies, and now and then puffy white clouds. I actually got a lot of sewing done. Two more mug rugs. These are the left overs from my quilt that got finished, so what do you do?  Make mug rugs out of them.

I made the Dresden plate out of old fabric. There is even a couple of pieces of feed sack. I hand stitched it to a quilted background, which I did quilt, and framed it.  I needed a square frame.  Could not find anything at the stores that I was impressed with. Then I remembered that Dad had made me a lot of frames and maybe there was a square one.  I actually found three.  I see there is a bit of reflection in the glass.
Dad loved to work with wood. He could not throw away anything, kind of like we are with fabric.  I think this frame is black walnut, as it is quite dark.  He even had the glass in it.  Where he got the glass is any one's guess. It does happen to be tinted and was a tad rough around the edges.  I just need to put a paper backing on it and it will be done.
This is going to be a present for my friend in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that we are going to visit in a couple of weeks. She knew my Dad, and knew of the appreciation of wood, he and her husband shared.

Have been working on my HO HO HO projects.  I think my day is the 8th of August.  We leave for Buffalo for the annual family reunion on the 1st. I need to have everything done and photographed and ready to post by the 31st of July.  That is not too many days away.  Actually, I have 3 small projects done. The big one is moving right along and a couple others are getting their fair share of work, too.

Tomato update, looks like there are 4 more flowers blooming, so keep your fingers crossed that there will be at least 4 more tomato's.

Have a great day. Be kind to your sewing machine, show it some love by using it.

Hi Mary, I've decided that I do not like Bloglovin' !! still cannot leave a comment when reading on that page. Love the mug rugs.... perfect use for those leftover Klosjes. I still shudder on remembering a Dresden Plate quilt I worked on with a group of girls - every block came out a different size! One day I will make a Dresden quilt myself as I love the look. Your block looks so lovely in the frame, very special too!
Dreary and cold here... good sewing weather!

Hi Mary,
It's funny, before I even started read your blog I saw the picture and said to myself, "Someone had some spools left over!" lol They look terrific. I really like the dresden plate picture too. You did a wonderful job.

My Dad was a wood carver and he never threw out any wood either. After he got really sick with Parkinson's my Mom started cleaning out his basement woodshop. She had to sneak the wood out at night so he wouldn't see her doing it. We have all sorts of carved things to remember him by though; he was really good at carving ducks and made them for everyone. 8)

Take care,
