Our last day in Maine

Linda and I had been talking about quilting, we did get to 2 shops,
and she happened to mention she had a framed quilt. When we got back
to the house, imagine my surprise at finding she did.  It hangs in her
formal living room. As I am admiring it, I see it is signed by "Jo Diggs".
Linda had bought it at a craft fair.  I surprised her by saying I knew who Jo
was and that she had spoken at our guild.

Linda and I went for a walk around where she lives.  There is an old quarry in this
development.  It was a short walk from her home.  Yes, that is our shadows showing
that we are taking pictures.
What a lovely site.  Again we were having a beautiful day.

Closeup of some of the rocks that were around it.
Linda said she had visited a museum in Boston and had been surprised
at a rock display, and how many rocks and minerals that were from Topsham,
where she lives.  I was fascinated with what we were seeing.
Lots of shiny sections in the boulders we saw.

The grounds are very different from what we see at home.

We don't have "rocks" that look like these!

Then we went on to see this "Civil Engineering Landmark,"  The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge.
What is interesting, beside being a swinging bridge over a river, is that
the design and engineering is by John A Roebling's Sons Co. Both of our
immigrant grandfathers used to work at Roebling's in Trenton, New Jersey.

View down the river from the bridge.
You have to be careful, as it is used and does in fact move, while you are
trying to take pictures!

This is a view from about the middle of the bridge.
Did not realize, Linda was taking a picture at the same time
I was.

I had to get down by the water, for some of my picture taking.

What a interesting bridge.

Just another view from ground level.

The Cabot Manufacturing Company was on one side of the river in Brunswick, Maine.
The bridge was built so that the children working in the mill could cross the river
to attend school on the other side.

This little guy was enjoying some berries.
He was ready for his closeup.

One view of the bridge from one end to the other.

Don't you love the color of that red tree?
Fall was said to be at it's peak, while we were there.

One of the connectors on those cables.

One last stop.
We are always looking for signs that has our maiden name on it.
Linda found this one not long after she moved to Topsham.
Toth is our family name, on our father's side, and Bagley is
our mother's name. We have found out that Toth is quite a common
name in Hungary.

Here I am!  We always have to get pictures of ourselves by it.

This was the last evening of our stay at my sister's home.
In the morning we are starting out early to catch a train ride in
North Conway, New Hampshire.
It was a great time catching up with my sister and her husband, and
a chance to see this part of Maine.

More adventures on the way.

Mary
