A day by the Atlantic Ocean

Another gorgeous day.  Today we are at Land's End, on Bailey Island.
This is the last place on this island that is connected to the Mainland.
There are several island all around, some inhabited and others not.
The coast of Maine has lots of areas like this.

Linda, my sister, walking on the small beach.

Of course there is another gift shop.
There are lots of these.  Have to check them out.  Maybe they will
have the perfect souvenir to take home.

Monument by the beach.

What this one says.

Butterfly is a Painted Lady.

Today's lunch spot.
Cook's Lobster and Ale House.

We had a great view of the Cribstone Bridge.
Gravity holds the stacked granite blocks a top one another.
It connects Orr and Bailey Island.   The roadway itself is just wide
enough for two cars to pass each other.  It does become interesting when
a semi truck crosses it.

It is an interesting structure, built in 1927.

Well, look at that, another Lobster Roll for me!
I could have eaten more Lobster Rolls while I was in Maine.
They were so good!!

Our server was nice enough to take a picture of all of us.
The food and ale was so good!

There were even a few old roses still in bloom!
These are the ones that grown on tall old bushes, and seem
wild in nature.

Well would you look at that.  A flamingo lobster boat!

What a view from here.

This area lends to beautiful views of the Casco Bay coastline going back
to 500 million years.  It is considered a geologists dream.
Layers of mud formed the sedimentary rock along with deposts of mineral
that crystalizsed into quartz and garnet.  Movement in the Earth's crust pushed
the rock layers upward. Hot magma flowed into one large crack and
formed a vertical seam of dark basalt, known to scientist as an intrusive
volcanic dike.  Erosion of the basalt during 200 million years led to what is call the
Giant's Stairs. (

Very interesting coast. Linda let me know that if I fell, she was not
rescuing me.  She would call for help, however.

Rosehips.

It was a beautiful view.

Gull enjoying the sun!

As we headed back home, we crossed the Cribstone Bridge, and looked
back at where we had lunch.
Another wonderful day was had by all of us.  Linda said, even though
they lived in Maine, they never get tired of bringing guests to see these
sites.
More adventures to come.

Mary

Lands End area was nice. We started near there. Looks like you had a great trip, visiting your sister.
