Heading to North Conway

We left my sister's early on Thursday.  We are heading to North Conway, New Hampshire to take a
train ride. While on the road we passed this strange scene, fog hanging over a lake.. It was like
this through out the town, and roadway.  You were in it, then out.

Another colorful area.

Upon arriving in North Conway we found out that the train we were  going to board
was this one.

The car, is for first class seating, which Ron had arranged.
The Gertrude Emma Parlor and Observation Car is a gorgeous Pullman
car that has been restored. It has individual wicker chairs, large double-wide windows,
mahogany woodwork and and open observation platform.
This car was built in 1898.
Let the fun begin.

More beautiful fall color.

Gorgeous scenery.

Granite mountains.

When we reached the destination, the engine was uncoupled for the rest
of the train, and moved onto a side rail where it was moved the the other
end of the rail cars. We were able to get off the cars and watch while
this was being done.  So cool.

Ron hanging out the car.

What the inside of the Gertrude Emma looks like.
It was so neat.  Passengers change sides to everyone can
see the scenery on each side.

Ron hanging out on the inside by our seats.

Color from the other side of the train, on our way back to the station.

On our way to Lebanon, New Hampshire, where we were going to stay
for the night we saw a lot of beautiful scenery and covered bridges.
We on't have many of those out here in the midwest.
We have one more day of sightseeing before heading home.
This has truly been a beautiful week of weather.

Hope you are having a great week.
Mary

What a cool trip, Mary! I love the eerie feeling of the first photo. Perfect for Halloween. I've never seen the inside of a rail car with wicker chairs before. This must be a really fun excursion. Your pictures are lovely. Thanks for the vicarious trip.
