Time for more touring on Sanibel.
Shortly after crossing the bridge we stopped to check out the birds.
Caught this Eagle just after he had caught a fish for breakfast.
Turkey Vultures were present. They are scavengers and always looking for leftovers.
Just a few hanging around on the beach.
Today we got to go through the Ding Darling Sanctuary. I think we went through 3 times.
Each time you drive through you see something different. It is a 4 mile drive, and if you want
can take you several hours just to get through it one time. There are places to stop and watch
the birds and a few animals. An alligator or two just may pop up.
It was such a beautiful day again.
Stopped at the Sanibel Lighthouse.
Different then the ones we see up home.
Quite historical.
Great Egret in breeding plumage.
Little crab on the cypress tree. They call these Mangrove Tree Crabs.
Got an osprey coming in with the fish for the young ones in the nest.
Here we are!! Sorry, there are never a lot of pictures of us!!
Young Black-crowned Night Heron
Merganser, chilling
Shell
Just some of the birds you might see in the sanctuary.
A lot of migrating birds stop here to rest and refresh.
One of the crabs in the water. We stopped in this one area and just watched there
for a while, well the birds too.
Found a few flowers as well.
White Pelican, maybe this one will be on his way up to Illinois and beyond.
White Ibis
Brown Pelican stretching his wings.
Little Blue Heron and Snowy Egret
Just on of the ponds in the sanctuary.
I could not get enough of this place. It fascinates me so much. The tides play a big
part in what the ponds look like during the day. The time of day also plays a part in
how many birds you may see. There is also a trail alongside of the sanctuary
that can be walked or bike ridden all day. There are also surprises along that trial.
We did stop at the Bailey General Store that morning. What a treasure.
There is everything there. It is a hardware, souvenir, bakery, liquor, grocery store.
It seems to have a little bit of everything. Naturally we had to pick up a few things.
I had to stop at the craft, quilt store as well. You never know what treasures you may
find there. I guess I did okay $100.00 later!
Our day was wonderful. Plus, we could not have asked for better weather.
Tomorrow is another adventure.
