Today we drove over to Corkscrew Swamp. Another favorite place for me.
Ron was duly impressed.
It was a gorgeous, beautiful day. This place is so wonderful. There are wonderful boardwalk trails through the sanctuary. All types of environment is here. It is a wonderful habitat for the birds and animals that live here.
Painted Bunting. The sanctuary keeps feeders near the visitors center so that you can
see the Painted Bunting, as well as a variety of other seed eaters.
Here is the board with the species that were sighted that day. I was fortunate to be able to see
quite of few of these.
Gray Catbird
The ever popular "Ron Bird".
I did entice Ron to use a wheelchair for our walk on the boardwalk. There were times he
wanted to get us and stretch his legs. It is hard for him to walk any great distance with out
stopping to take a rest break.
It was fun to see baby raccoons checking the area out.
Black-crowned Night Heron with a tasty morsel.
What an interesting bird.
This is the Landmark Cypress "Dutcher".
An Anhinga drying off.
Limpkin looking for tasty shells. They spread their wings to form shade to be
able to search in the water to find their prey. The woodstork does the same thing.
There were alligators
Little Blue Heron
Baby Alligators
Sandhill Cranes
Turkeys
We stopped at another sanctuary on way back.
I have walked this trail some. It is about a quarter mile hike back to the beginning
of the actual trail. Here at the front, by the parking lot is a neat pond. There was quite a
bit of wildlife birds right there. There were more people here then the last
time I had stopped. That was a couple years ago, when I was by myself.
This Great Blue Heron was trying it's best to hide.
You never know what you will see along the way. This appeared to be a fire along
the highway.
The Hibiscus are so pretty in Florida. So many varieties of
color combinations.
Back toward Sanibal for the night.
Sunset
More of the Brown Pelicans. They are interesting to watch. They are such
a large bird. There coloration's are different. I just have not learned that much
about them yet.
