Quilt Retreat at Racine, Wisconsin

It was time for a quilt retreat at Siena, in Racine, Wisconsin.
We arrived on Monday, April 27.  This one was only going to b for 4 days.  I am sure several of us would have liked it to be for a few days longer.  The time goes by so fast when you are among friends.
There were 13 of us sewing   The variety of projects was amazing.
Everyone brings a lot of things to work on.  There is handwork, embroidery,  quilting, a lot of piecing or quilts.
For myself, I was able to get 26 blocks completed on a Bonnie Hunter quilt, Summer Solstice. The second block has more parts to it. I got a good start on it.

It always feel good to have the time to sew, without interruptions.

I did take walks along the beach of Lake Michigan.  Every day was beautiful.
There is an area that has some forest and a creek running through it.  I did take time to look for birds and of course the first wildflowers of Spring.  The bird migration has started.  I wanted to see if I could add a couple of new "life" birds to my list.
I did.  There were several flocks that came near shore to feed.  It was interesting to watch them.

We all fell in love with this quilt made of batiks.  The piano keyboard border set it off perfectly.

Lynn redid all the shashing in this gorgeous quilt.  She did not care for the fabric that came with the block of the month  kit,
after she had it together.  She took it all apart, and used a different fabric for the shashing.  It turned out great.  What a difference a fabric can make.

As you can see the shore line was beautiful.  Spring is coming here as well.

We are all joining to make a quilt for a special lady that recently found out she has breast cancer.
Here are some of the blocks that got done.

Kathy got her quilt, "Midnight Flight", a Bonnie Hunter workshop, done.  It turned out so pretty.

How about this for a backing?  Kathy put a lot of time and thought into how this back would be done.
Great Job!

This is the front of the quilt.  Kathy started this in a workshop last year.  It is a fun top all done in 30's fabric.
I like how this quilt looks. It just may be on my to do list.

It did feel good getting a great start on the quilt I am working on.  I had other projects in case I got bored or done with the one. "I never get bored"!

It was a great time.  I made a couple stops on the way home.  Of course there was one quilt shop, a bakery, a book store, and stopped at a coupe locations to see if I could locate any new birds for me.  I arrived home at 7:00 pm.  Once you get off the highway, the traffic was bad. Do love these quilt retreats.  I feel like I can get so many things accomplished.

Now back to the daily life.  The weather has been so nice that I am trying to get outside as much as possible.
I even purchased a few geranium plants on my way home.
I think we will be just fine on the weather, no more frost.
Have a great week.

I am sewing and cross stitching.
Mary

Sounds like a wonderful retreat. I enjoy spending some time outdoors when I go to retreat, but it's certainly not as nice as your location! DH and I have been flower hiking lately. Yesterday we followed a small birding group for awhile. THey were looking up, and we were looking down. Retreats are so refreshing!

Looks like a really fun time. I love Celtic Solstice (much more than the Grand Illusion I'm making, truth to be told!). I finally caught up on your posts. I love Neil Diamond too, but I'm not much of a concert goer. Your pictures of the arboretum are wonderful and I just love the baby robins at your home.

Happy stitching,
Susan in Texas
