Be a Hexie Queen blog hop

Today is my day to try to become a "Hexie Queen".  Actually, I have been making hexies for a while now, and have several projects in the works.  For this hop I decided to do a couple of special projects.

The first is this bag. It is 17 inches tall and made with a round bottom that is 10 inches across. There are 24 3/4 inch hexies flowers circling the bag.  There is one seam joining the background fabric, but no seams joining the hexies. I did not want to cut any of the hexies because there was a seam.  I did hand applique them on the background fabric.  Again, I was designing as I went along.

It is fully lined, and has a drawstring closure.  There are two pockets inside to hold sewing supplies.  I designed this bag with the thought that you could transport a larger sewing project, like a quilt top you were appliqueing.

Then I got the idea to make a smaller bag using the 1/2 inch hexagons.  This bag measures 9 inches tall and only 6 1/2 inches across and only has 6 hexagon flowers. I squared off the bottom and again appliqued the flowers so they circled the bag.  It is fully lined, and has a drawstring closure.

This cute bag is 10 inches tall and 6 l/2 inches wide.  There are 2 rows of 12, l/2 inch hexagon flowers.  It, too, is fully lined and has a drawstring closure.
Any of these bags could be perfect to hold a gift for someone.  Even the big bag could hold a quilt to be given to a special someone.

Once again I had to try something different.  How do you like my Christmas cards.  I used two size hexies to create the snowman.  Each is hand appliqued on a cloth background. There is even a little padding behind them to create a bit of dimension.  I actually have a dozen of these made for the coming holidays.

How about a hexie butterfly?  I have seen a couple of ways to do them on the Internet.  This butterfly is made with 1/2 inch hexagons. He could be the start of a quilt, embellish a zipper pouch, or be appliqued to a bag, or a shirt.  The ideas abound.

I had made this small doll quilt.  The doll sitting on it was given to me by my grandmother when I was a child.  She had crocheted the dress and booties.

I have finally finished this little quilt. It is made with 3/4 inch hexagons. There is a hexagon button in the center of each of the flowers.  The dolls were liking sitting by the Fox River enjoying the beautiful day.

I would like to thank Madame Samm and Debby Kratovil for their continued cheerleading.  Where would we be if we did not have these great ladies.  Here is today's lineup.
Don't forget to check out all of these super quilters. Remember, you could be a hexie queen!

Have a great day!

Wow! What beautiful projects. And such small hexies! I have only tried finished 1" hexies. I use traditional hand piecing method to sew them together. That's the way my mother taught me. I guess we tend to use what we have learned. It seems like a lot of trouble to baste all that fabric to the paper and then stitch them together with a stitch I don't particularly enjoy. I guess I need to get out of my comfort zone and try it - I might like it. I am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. I found some blocks she had made, too. Thanks for participating and sharing your amazing, amazing projects.
