Road trip day. I have a friend in Wilmington that now lives out in the country.
She and her husband had decided they wanted to raise some chickens for eggs.
It wasn't long after they moved in that bought 10 chicks. They really are cute when they are little, but I have to say they scare the dickens out of me when they get big!
You would think with all the birding I do I would not mind, but I can tell you, I have been
afraid of them since I was a kid.
Anyway, a friend of theirs loves loves to do wood work. The rage has been to give cute little
picnic tables to their animals. Beth asked the guy if he would make one for the chickens.
He picked up the wood from her house that morning, and after lunch he bought her this cute
table. While we were there, the chickens would have nothing to do with it. Just walked around it.
Beth sent me this picture later in the evening to show me one did give it a try. Two more had to look
and see what the fuss was about. She has said they are using it now when she put the feed on it.
I guess you can teach chickens tricks, too.
The cows are theirs, they belong to the farm next door. She said it has bee interesting to watch
when new calves are born. Plus they offer a lot of great viewing and learning experiences.
Their property goes passed the two barns that are out back. Their garden is just in from of the red
barn. Things are growing and will be ready to be picked soon.
My friend Kathy and I have not seen Beth in forever. We felt comfortable being there as Beth
and her husband are both in the health care profession.
Beth took us into town to see if a small craft, quilt shop was open. Much to our surprise is was gone!
We did check out a couple antique shops though. I think we each walled away with a couple treasurers.
Kathy and I both knew of a shop not far away, so Kathy directed Beth out to get there. Well it is still in business, yea!! Again we each walked away with a few treasurers.
Check out these two quilts. Are they not cute?
They are "Cut Loose Press" patterns. Just log cabins! They are single page patterns that
you can put in a loose leaf notebook. This one is 24 X 36.
After visiting this shop, back to Beth's for lunch. Kathy and I had brought things for lunch.
I had made chicken salad and zucchini bread from scratch! When I get in a cooking mood,
anything can happen. Kathy mad a great salad, Beth had wonderful fruit salad.
After this great lunch we stayed at the table and talked, and talked. We had thought we would
work on making cards, but talking prevailed! Would you believe when I finally looked at my watch
it was 5:30! Where had the time gone. We got our treasures from Beth's car, and checked
out the chickens and their new picnic table and said our good byes, it was 6:30 to start home.
I dropped Kathy home, then on to mine.
What a wonderful day, meeting and catching up with a great friend.
We all used masks and social distanced when necessary. Sometimes it is just what we need
to get through these tough times.
