2012 Celebration of Quilts

Saturday, June 2, the Village of Oswego and Prairie Stitches Quilt Shop, staged their first ever, Celebration of Quilts.   Prairie Stitches was one of the featured shops in Better Homes and Gardens, Quilt Sampler in 2011. They had over 200 quilt entries. Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, was the featured speaker. There was a bed turning of beautiful antique quilts. Jinnie of Lots of Fabric 2, blog has great pictures of the antique quilts.
There were raffle baskets, quilting demonstrations, quilt appraisals and a few vendors.  The weather turned out to be gorgeous. Not too hot, sunny, and a light breeze.
There were quilts everywhere.  The stores on main street, even got in on the fun.  They had quilts displayed in their windows, and  on the fence along the sidewalk.
Our local Senior Center, had a garage sale in the old firehouse building. They were doing a booming business. The Seniors, and another local organization set up food tents. I think every ones needs were covered.

Quilts were even on the side of the old firehouse.

Prairie Stitches, created a raffle quilt, using the pattern, "Scattered Stars" they had created when they were in the Quilt Sampler magazine. This one was done in red, white and blue.  It is a great quilt. Tickets are still available. The drawing will be July 3. Proceeds from the sale of tickets are going to a local charity.
As you can see, there was a great turn out of quilters and friends.

A wonderful rendition of "Stitchers Garden".

Love the colors in this one.
Wonderful shades of pink and brown.

The wonderful ladies from Yellow Creek Quilt Designs, in Pearl City were there with their wonderfully small hexagon and log cabin quilts.

This beauty is using Australian fabric. The blue set it off.
Love the 9 patches and appliqued flowers.

One of these days, I would like to make this quilt.  I have seen it a few times in magazines, and loved it.  Seeing one in person makes me want to do it even more.
Our town has a fence along one side of main street.  A perfect place to display smaller quilts. Love this one too.

Another street view. The quilts were wonderful.

One of the signs at the quilt shop. Have scissors, will travel!
As you can see, it was a great day for an outdoor quilt show.  Prairie States with the Village would like to make this an annual event.  You go girls!!

Have a great Sunday.

Mary

Too bad that we hardly have things like that in Germany. We don´t even have good and big fabric stores around.

Hi Mary,
LOVED the display of the quilts! We had a great time: lunch at the Tap House, then some shopping at Prairie Stitches!

I missed it. My foot is bothering me, and I didn't think I could do all the walking. I really wanted to go. Thanks for the pictures.

What a terrific show Mary. Looks like you had a really good time. Did you buy very much? I love the vendors. 8) And with such a productive May behind you, you could justify lots of new fabric. ;)

Take care,
Susan in Texas
