ALS Quilt and Sweet Birdie Needlebook

Today is about working on projects. Yesterday while attending an Independence Day concert, I started working on the embroidery for a new needlebook. Elyte over at http://teafabricandotherthings.blogspot.com/ had this wonderful needlebook she made for a swap. I fell in love with it and ordered the kit. I had contacted her about it and we decided to each make one. She is making one for herself this time. I got part of my embroidery done. It is going to be so cute.Today I made the quilt top for my friends daughter Kerry Anne. This is the young mother that has ALS that I have written about. Kris over at http://thequiltinggarden.blogspot.com/ let me know that Moda had put out a line of fabric called "HOPE". Moda has been putting out a fabric line "Collection for a Cause", for several years. The "HOPE" collection came out in the Fall of 2010. I had a jelly roll, a charm pack, and a candy bar. When I was in Shipshewanna, Indiana last month Lolly's Quilt Shop had some of the collection. I picked up a layer cake and yardage for the borders. I had printed 25 pictures from the ALS walk we did in May to use as the center of the blocks. I just started sewing. I designed as I went. The blocks turned out as rectangles, which I squared up to 11 1/2. I have a light fabric for a small inner border, and a red print for the other one. Hopefully, tomorrow I will be able to put on the borders and get the back made.

Here is a close up of one of the blocks. I am so pleased with how the quilt looks. Red is the color representing ALS. I think Moda did a nice choice in the colors. I hope she will like it.
That's it for today! In the morning it is exercise class, then back to the quilt top.

Have a great day!
