Garden Michigan

Continuing on with August. On Saturday August 11, we started up to Pat and Tom's. Stopped in
Belvedere to pick up 2 quilts that Marlene and had. As usual they turned out great. We got in to their home in time for dinner. On Sunday Pat and I started our project. We had decided to work on jackets we had each cut out several years ago. What an undertaking. By Thursday, we knew why each had never finished them. I had a deer fix every day. They came into their yard just about every day. This year there was one set of twins and one single fawn. It is so cool to see them. They are beautiful creatures.

On Tuesday, we quilted down at the church hall all day. That is always fun. It is nice to visit with the other ladies. They are always working on cool projects. They have gotten into fancy embroidery now. It is wonderful. I worked on the Jacket from Hell. Pat worked on a row quilt she had gotten from Prairie Stitches here in Oswego.

On Wednesday we went on a "Hike". There were 10 of us. I had been walking about 3 to 3 1/2 miles every day with Pat. That day my legs started to numb up. I had to turn back. Pat went back with me. I still got in 4 miles that day. The rest of the ladies got in 5 and a half miles. It was through forest and around one of the bays. After, we had coffee and scones. What else do you do after walking, eat!!!

We continued to work on these jackets. It was becoming a chore. Like I said by Thursday we decided to give up. We played a lot of cards and dominos, and ate Pat's wonderful food. She is really a great cook. The weather was warm during the day, and cool in the night. It was good. On Friday we traveled up to the Keewanawe Peninsula. It was a gorgeous trip. The road were good. The scenery beautiful. Lake Superior, big. We stayed at the Bella Vista Motel. No airconditioning. It was summer for those 2 days we were there. We took the Brockway Mountain drive. What a view at the top. Who knew there was views like that in Michigan.

On our way up we had stopped at a quilt shop "Portage Quilt House", in Houghton. There was this cool cat there. His name was Cheddar. Big and fluffy. He had huge paws. The quilt shop was great too. Bought fabric for a taup jacket. We each dropped a few dollars there.

We were staying in Copper Harbor for the "Art in the Park" on Saturday. It was a nice show. There was a group there to sing called "Whitewater". They were very good. We found one place to eat that was good. On our way home we stopped at the Jampot. It is run by monks. The pride of the jams is Thimbleberry Jam. It turned out to be very good. Copper Harbor was very picturesque.

While we were gone, we heard the Rapid River and the Garden area had a teriffic storm go through. A lot of rain. On Sunday we were to church. Father Brian, even said hi, and glad to see me back again. Sunday afternoon, "Chas n steel" were playing in the park. They are a blue grass band that we have seen several time. They were really good. We had pizza from No No's. It was pretty good. Marci joined us for dinner. After, she came down and the 3 of us went for our walk. That afternoon, we saw a deer sitting in the woods. We think she may have had a fawn sleeping beside her. She never moved, but did watch us. We were not very far from her. It was way neat to see.
Monday morning we had to start home. We did get home that evening about 6:00 our time. I did get to stop at Primitive Gatherings, Nancy's Notions and JJ Stitches on the way home. What great shops. Found several new things to work on at them. Instead of my projects dwindling, they increased.
All this traveling and it was only until 20th of August. Now to play catchup. I have a lot of projects to work on. The big one is to design an apron to maybe put in a magazine???? More on that later. I do miss Pat. She is a great motivator for me.
